precious little gifts…

Hope turned 18 months on the 8th…it’s gone by so quickly…

As I type this I’m listening to Alex drill the final pieces in place so we can hang the door to little Seth’s room. He’ll be here in a little less than 3 months.

The Bible says that children are a gift from God…a heritage. It’s true and I feel so humbled to participate in the process of raising our children…ever mindful they are really gifts He has entrusted to Alex and I for a season.

The Bible also gives instruction to “train up a child in the way he should go so that when he is old he will not depart from it.” An ongoing instruction over the course of a lifetime…thank you Lord for the example you have set for us…walking beside us, guiding and loving us…calling us back when we stray…disciplining us when we disobey…thank you Lord for showing us who you are, your character, and imparting your Spirit to us that we may understand and fulfill what you’re calling us to.

As I pondered and prayed about this verse my heart was led to Jesus saying “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” So simple…train up our children in “the way”…Jesus is the, singular, way. Pointing them to the cross at Calvary that they will be made aware of their fallen nature (“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”) and their need for grace…their need to be saved by the only One who can save them that they may know and walk in fellowship with the Lord. Experience this temporary life in the manner He intended before the foundations of the world.

18 months have passed so quickly…maybe I’ve just noticed the passing of these 18 months in a way I never had reason to notice any other passing of 18 months at any given point in my life before…

So, trusting that we are called to participate and not to determine results, may we continue to pour into these little gifts…trusting that as it is written “the Word of God will not return void”…may they know Him, experience in His sufferings and the true life that is produced as they walk in the power of His resurrection. The things of this world will, most certainly, pass away…may these precious little gifts set their mind on things above and look forward to the day when they stand before their Savior, marvel in the glory of their Creator.
